Deadly Russian strikes hit Ukraine as EU sanctions stall

Russia opened Monday with strikes across Ukraine that killed at least three people and wounded ten more. A KAB bomb hit Izium, in Kharkiv region, before dawn, wounding three — including a two-month-old baby — and destroying four homes. Hours later a strike on a warehouse in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, killed three and injured seven. Near the Polish border, a drone hit a train at Yahodyn station minutes after Boris Johnson and EU security officials had passed the same line; no one was hurt. Ukraine's air force warned Shahed waves would continue all day, with defences intercepting about 90 percent. EU's Kaja Kallas called the border strike a message meant to intimidate Europe, as EU ambassadors in Brussels failed to renew sanctions on Russia, blocked by Slovakia and France a day before they lapse. Ukraine's institutions are in turmoil too. Outgoing Prosecutor General Kravchenko published a 30-page suspicion notice accusing NABU chief Kryvonos of forging documents in 2008, then left the country overnight; Zelensky asked parliament to dismiss him, with a vote due Tuesday.
