Trump Signs AI Safety Accord with Major Tech Companies
U.S. President Donald Trump published a one-page AI safety accord on Truth Social that his administration described as "morally binding." The document, signed by Trump and executives from Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, X (formerly Twitter), and Nvidia, calls for four levels of oversight within AI companies.
Companies are asked to engage an external auditor for AI controls, establish an independent board-level committee, implement internal monitoring of model capabilities in areas including cybersecurity, biosecurity, and chemical threats, and create a dedicated internal team to ensure all oversight measures function as intended.
"Over time it may be appropriate to codify these norms or enshrine them in regulations. Regardless of whether that is required, we believe implementing these controls and audits is crucial," the White House agreement reads.
