Ukraine Air Force Spokesman: Russia Upgrading Drone Cameras for Strikes

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said Russia is fitting its drones with higher-resolution cameras and higher-quality materials. These upgrades allow a single drone to serve simultaneously as a reconnaissance vehicle, strike weapon, and relay node for mesh networks.

"The adversary is using high-quality materials in its UAVs and increasing camera resolution, which gives it a more detailed view of the ground situation," Ihnat said in a TV broadcast cited by Ukrinform.

He noted that Russia's use of mesh networks enables chains of drones to relay control signals along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, allowing operators to maintain contact over long ranges. Ihnat also confirmed that the number of Russian reactive UAVs launched against Ukraine grew from roughly 350 in June to over 2,800 in August 2026.
