1 min read

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has reached the top of the ATP world rankings, becoming the world number one after a career defined by sustained excellence and near-misses at major tournaments.

Career Milestone

Zverev, 29, has been a fixture in the top ten of the ATP rankings for nearly a decade, winning multiple ATP Masters titles and an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The number one ranking represents the pinnacle of his career, coming after a period of remarkable consistency in 2026. He overcame a serious ankle injury that threatened his career and has since been playing some of the best tennis of his life.

German Tennis Milestone

Zverev becomes only the third German man to hold the ATP number one ranking, following Boris Becker and Michael Stich. His achievement is celebrated as a major milestone for German tennis and European tennis more broadly, as he has become one of the most technically gifted players of his generation.
