Amanda Knox to Star in True-Crime Comedy About Her Own Murder Case

Amanda Knox, the American student whose wrongful murder conviction in Italy became one of the most scrutinised criminal cases of the 21st century, is set to star in and executive produce a darkly comedic limited series based on her own experience of the Italian justice system.

Knox announced the project on her podcast, saying she has been developing the concept with a writers' room for two years. The show, currently untitled and without a network deal announced, will follow a fictionalised version of herself navigating a foreign legal system while becoming a global media spectacle.

Knox spent nearly four years in Perugia's Capanne prison after being convicted in 2009 of the 2007 murder of her British housemate Meredith Kercher. She was acquitted by Italy's highest court in 2015 after a prolonged legal saga that attracted worldwide media coverage and spawned multiple documentaries and books.

Knox said she wants to use dark humour to examine the way the criminal justice system and tabloid media can construct narratives around defendants, particularly young women. She has spoken extensively about her experience in the years since her acquittal and has become an advocate for wrongful conviction reform.

Some victim advocacy groups have objected to the project, saying it risks minimising Kercher's death. Knox acknowledged those concerns, saying the series will make clear that a real person lost her life.
