AOC Reveals She Is Freezing Her Eggs and Has Not Ruled Out 2028 Presidential Run

New York Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, widely known as AOC, has shared on social media that she has begun the process of freezing her eggs, while also revealing in a television interview that she has not ruled out running for president in 2028.

The 36-year-old posted video clips on Sunday showing herself taking an injection and discussing the process, including tips she has learned about costs, clinical procedures, storage, and how fertility care functions within what she described as the United States' broken medical system.

Normalising the conversation

In an interview on ABC News, Ocasio-Cortez said she wanted to normalise discussions about egg freezing, particularly given the current political climate in the United States. "This administration is denying reproductive care to women across the country, from abortion rights to the ability to carry out a healthy pregnancy," she said. "I think it's important for us as leaders to have these conversations and share these processes."

In an earlier Instagram post, she acknowledged there was a "political risk" in sharing the information publicly, but said she felt it was important to do so regardless.

Presidential ambitions not ruled out

When asked on ABC News about a potential 2028 presidential run — following polling that reflected her popularity as a possible candidate — Ocasio-Cortez deflected but stopped short of a denial. "I'm focused on winning the midterms, I'm running for Congress right now," she said. But when pressed further, she added: "I haven't ruled out the possibility and I'm very humbled by the tremendous amount of support out there."
