Around 100 firefighters were deployed to tackle a major fire at a waste processing facility on Landmann Way in Bermondsey, south-east London. The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of August 19, engulfed approximately 50 tonnes of household waste stored at the site. London Fire Brigade said crews from multiple stations attended the scene, and several fire engines were in attendance. Residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke drifting over nearby streets. There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation. It took firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control. The Environment Agency was notified due to the potential risk of runoff from firefighting water entering local drainage systems. The site, which handles waste collection services for the borough, remained closed while investigators assessed the damage.
