Myanmar military government has released photos showing detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi meeting with an official from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), marking the first confirmed outside contact for the Nobel laureate in two and a half years.
Suu Kyi appears in good health in the images, offering some reassurance to supporters who have had no verified information about her condition since she was placed under increasingly strict detention.
Suu Kyi, 81, was ousted in a military coup in February 2021 and subsequently sentenced to more than two decades in prison on a series of charges that her supporters describe as politically motivated. She has been held in solitary conditions with extremely limited outside access.
