Court Orders Detention for Ex-Prosecutor Tymoshenko in Carthage Case
Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court on October 22 ordered the detention of Ivan Tymoshenko, the former head of the Prosecutor General's Office IT department, with the option of bail of UAH 8 million. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Center for Combating Corruption reported the ruling.
"The investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court applied a preventive measure to the former head of one of the departments of the Prosecutor General's Office - another member of a criminal organization in the Office of the Prosecutor General. The court applied detention with the alternative of posting bail of UAH 8 million," prosecutors said.
According to the Center for Combating Corruption, prosecutors had asked for custody with bail of UAH 100 million. If bail is posted, the suspect will be given certain procedural obligations. Anti-corruption bodies say Tymoshenko played one of the key roles in a scheme to receive bribes for not interfering with the work of fraudulent call centers.
The Carthage case
Tymoshenko, who appears on the NABU and SAP tapes in the Carthage case, was served a notice of suspicion earlier on October 22. The pre-trial investigation found that a criminal organization was created in mid-2025 and led by Serhiy Kropyva, a head of a structural unit of the Prosecutor General's Office, who recruited both prosecutors and associates. Members systematically took bribes for not obstructing the illegal activity of call centers that defraud Ukrainians and foreigners, and laundered the proceeds through real estate, jewelry and other property worth over UAH 20 million, and by placing over UAH 10 million in accounts of relatives. Anti-corruption bodies put the documented bribes at more than UAH 1 billion.
