Death Toll in Pryluky Rises to 20, Including 5 Children
The death toll from a Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, has risen to 20 people, including five children, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on October 7. Another 55 people were wounded, among them seven children.
Zelensky Names Youngest Victims
In his statement, Zelensky identified several of the youngest victims: one-year-olds Oleksandr, Kyrylo, and Serhii, and eight-year-old Maksym. He expressed condolences to all bereaved families. Rescue crews managed to pull 15 survivors from the rubble, including one child. A search is still ongoing for additional missing persons.
Scale of the Disaster
The Interior Ministry later confirmed that the death toll had climbed to 20 as rescue operations continued. Emergency services were working at the site, and police and investigators were documenting the aftermath of the strike. The missile hit a multi-story apartment block in the morning of October 7, causing significant structural damage and trapping residents under debris.
The attack on Pryluky is among the deadliest single strikes on a Ukrainian city in recent weeks, underscoring the ongoing threat posed by Russian missile and aerial bombardments against civilian infrastructure.
