Denmark Speeds Up $276M Ukraine Aid After Russian Warship Fires Flares

Denmark has decided to accelerate the delivery of a 276-million-dollar aid package to Ukraine, worth 1.8 billion Danish kroner, following an escalation in the Baltic Sea. The package is focused on air defense needs, the Danish government announced.

The Incident That Triggered the Decision

On September 15, a Russian military frigate fired signal flares toward a Danish Armed Forces helicopter operating in the region. The Russian ambassador in Copenhagen claimed the Danish helicopter had "provoked" the Russian vessel with its maneuvers. Moscow later awarded the ship's commander for the incident.

Denmark's Response

Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus stated clearly: "If the Russians think they can intimidate us, our answer is to step up our support for Ukraine even faster than we planned." The accelerated package reflects Copenhagen's determination to treat Russian pressure as a reason to act more swiftly, not to back down.

Denmark's decision follows a broader European pattern of responding to Russian provocations with increased military and financial backing for Kyiv.
