Driver deliberately caused crash then shot soldier dead on Odessa road

An elderly man from the Dnipropetrovsk region was arrested in Odessa on September 30 after deliberately causing a road collision with a military serviceman and then shooting him dead in broad daylight. The incident occurred in the Kyiv district of the city on Lyustdorfska Road.

How the attack unfolded

According to the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was driving a ZAZ vehicle when he spotted a Chevrolet driven by a 50-year-old serviceman. He deliberately provoked the collision. After both drivers exited their vehicles to discuss the incident, the suspect drew a pistol and fired at the soldier's chest.

After the wounded serviceman fell to the ground, the suspect approached and fired a second aimed shot into his neck. The victim died at the scene from the injuries sustained, the prosecutor's office stated.

Arrest and charges

Police detained the suspect at the scene and recovered the weapon, spent casings, and other physical evidence, which were sent for expert examination. The Prosecutor's Office formally charged the suspect with intentional murder under Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code. Police also filed charges for illegal weapons possession under Article 263 of the Criminal Code. Investigators are currently examining several possible motives for the killing.
