DTEK Power Plant Halts Electricity Output After Russian Attack

A DTEK thermal power station was forced to halt electricity generation on Tuesday evening after Russia carried out several waves of strikes against the facility. Equipment at the plant sustained significant damage, the company confirmed.

Multiple Attack Waves Hit the Station

DTEK confirmed via its official Telegram channel that Russia conducted several attack waves against one of its thermal power stations, leaving the plant unable to generate electricity with equipment severely damaged.

The energy company noted that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, its thermal power stations have been attacked more than 230 times by Russian forces.

Power Outages Spread Across Southern Ukraine

The consequences of the strikes were felt immediately in southern Ukraine. On the evening of September 8, the city of Mykolaiv and communities in the Kherson region lost electricity entirely. Emergency crews were deployed to assess damage and restore power where possible.

Energy Infrastructure Under Sustained Attack

Russia has consistently targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure throughout the war, aiming to deprive civilians of heat and electricity particularly during winter months. DTEK is Ukraine's largest private energy company, operating thermal, wind and solar power stations across the country. International partners have repeatedly condemned these systematic strikes as violations of international humanitarian law.
