England Name Squad for Pakistan Test Series as Stokes Eyes Title Defence

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed the squad for the three-match Test series against Pakistan, scheduled to begin later this month. Captain Ben Stokes, who has been sidelined since May with a knee injury, is fit to lead the side. Head coach Brendon McCullum and Stokes confirmed that the aggressive, high-risk Bazball approach — which has revitalised English Test cricket since 2022 — will continue to be the team's strategic philosophy.

New Faces in the Lineup

The squad includes three uncapped players who have impressed in county cricket during the current season. Yorkshireman Jacob Bethell, a hard-hitting middle-order batter who scored four consecutive centuries for Yorkshire, receives his first senior Test call-up. Seamer Tom Hartley of Lancashire and spinner Shoaib Bashir both return after impressing on the winter tour of India. Ollie Pope will serve as vice-captain in Stokes's absence should the captain suffer any setback.

Pakistan the Challenge

Pakistan arrive having beaten South Africa 2-1 in their last series and will provide a stern examination of England's batting depth on home soil. The series opener at Lord's on August 21 is already sold out, reflecting continued strong demand for Test cricket in England following the Bazball-driven resurgence. The full series spans three Tests across Lord's, Edgbaston, and The Oval, with the concluding match in early September.
