Finland's Stubb Asked Musk to Expand Starlink for Ukraine's Air Defense

1 min read

Finnish President Alexander Stubb said in an interview on September 25, 2026 that he has personally asked SpaceX owner Elon Musk to expand the Starlink satellite internet coverage for Ukraine, specifically to improve Ukraine's ability to strike Russian ballistic missile launch sites.

Stubb described this as one of three things Ukraine needs to get through the coming winter. Expanded Starlink coverage would enable Ukrainian forces to better coordinate long-range strikes against Russian mobile launchers, which are used to fire ballistic and cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities.

Context

Starlink has been critical to Ukraine's military communications and coordination since Russia's full-scale invasion. However, coverage gaps in Russian-controlled territory limit Ukraine's ability to track and engage high-value targets. Stubb is among the Nordic leaders most vocal in support of Ukraine.
