Flash floods hit Nepal-Tibet border killing dozens

Powerful flash floods have devastated communities along the Nepal-Tibet border, leaving dozens of people dead or missing as rescue and relief operations face significant challenges in reaching isolated mountain villages.

The floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rains in the Himalayan region, swept through valleys and destroyed bridges, roads and homes, cutting off entire communities from aid.

Authorities in Nepal have deployed rescue teams and emergency services, while the full extent of the damage in the remote border area remains difficult to assess.

Footage shared on social media showed swollen rivers carrying debris and the remains of structures overwhelmed by the force of the water.

The Himalayan region is particularly vulnerable to flash flooding during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September, and this year's rainfall has been exceptionally intense.
