Former Police Officer Jailed for 12 Years for Raping Two Women

1 min read

Former police officer Campbell Petrie has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after a court found him guilty of physical and sexual abuse against two women over a period of nearly two decades, from 2006 to 2023.

The case drew widespread attention because of Petrie's position of trust as a law enforcement officer. Prosecutors argued that he used his authority and status to intimidate victims and avoid accountability.

Petrie was found guilty on multiple counts. The judge, in sentencing, noted the serious breach of trust involved and the lasting harm caused to the victims. Both women had come forward independently, which strengthened the case against the defendant.

The case adds to ongoing scrutiny of vetting processes within British police forces following a series of high-profile cases involving officers committing serious crimes.
