Fulham Walk Off Pitch as Malaga Score Penalty Into Empty Net in Pre-Season Chaos

A pre-season friendly between Fulham and Spanish side Malaga ended in chaotic and bizarre fashion on Wednesday when the Premier League club left the pitch thinking the game was over, only for Malaga to score a penalty into an empty net.

How the Chaos Unfolded

Malaga equalised in the last minute of normal time when Fulham defender Calvin Bassey was penalised for a handball. Eneko Jauregi converted the spot kick to make it 2-2. Former Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who coaches Malaga, was then sent off for remonstrating with the referee at full time. Believing the match was over at 2-2, Arbeloa headed straight down the tunnel and his players followed him.

Penalty Into an Empty Net

Malaga, however, expected a penalty shootout to decide the Costa del Sol Trophy winner. With the Fulham players and staff already in the dressing room, Jauregi placed the ball on the spot and fired it into an empty net, before celebrating with his teammates. The bizarre scenes left fans confused as they awaited a shootout that never happened in conventional fashion.
