1 min read

Germany has allocated a comprehensive aid package for Ukraine worth more than 1.3 billion euros, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv.

"This is weapons that will help now, support for our energy — this is very important," Zelensky emphasized.

The package includes funds for manufacturing new interceptor missiles designed to counter reactive Shahed drones. According to Merz, around 350 million euros will go toward energy assistance.

"This will rapidly and tangibly strengthen Ukraine's air defense and is critically necessary (...) All of this will help mitigate the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and help the Ukrainian people survive the coming winter," Merz stated.

Earlier on Sunday, Merz visited the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, damaged by a Russian strike, and called on Putin to halt attacks on Ukraine and show readiness for negotiations.
