Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the price and launch details for Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated video games in history. The standard edition will retail for $79.99, with an Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99. The game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026, with pre-orders opening at midnight local time on June 25.
The $80 price point marks a significant step up from the $70 standard that major titles had settled on over recent years. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, has been among the most vocal advocates for higher game prices, arguing that development costs have risen dramatically. GTA 6 has been in development for years and is widely expected to be one of the most expensive games ever made.
The physical edition of GTA 6 will not ship with a game disc. Instead, buyers who purchase a boxed copy will find only a digital download code inside. The move mirrors a broader industry shift away from physical media, but has sparked criticism from gamers who value disc-based ownership, particularly those with older or disc-drive-free consoles.
Pre-orders go live on June 25, 2026. The $100 Ultimate Edition includes additional in-game content. The game launches exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch, with no PC release date announced yet. Rockstar has not confirmed whether backwards compatibility versions for older consoles will be available.
The pricing decision is being closely watched across the gaming industry. If GTA 6 sells well at $80, it could accelerate moves by other major publishers to raise standard game prices. Consumer advocates have warned this may make blockbuster titles less accessible, particularly in markets where gaming remains a premium expenditure.
