Kharkiv Court Jails Suspect in June Killing of Enlistment Office Soldier

1 min read

A court in Kharkiv has remanded in custody without bail a 50-year-old man suspected of killing a territorial recruitment center (TCC) serviceman and wounding his colleague on June 25, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office reported on Monday, Oct. 19.

According to the investigation, on June 25, 2026, a group of servicemen from a district TCC was carrying out planned notification measures in Kharkiv. The man took a knife from his pocket and struck a serviceman several times in the chest, shoulder and forearm. Another serviceman tried to stop the attacker, but he wounded that man too and fled.

Detention and charges

Both victims were hospitalized. The senior member of the group died the same day of a penetrating heart wound and heavy blood loss; his colleague received medical care and his life is not in danger.

Law enforcement identified the suspect and his location: a 50-year-old unemployed Kharkiv resident hiding in a rented apartment in the city. He was detained on Oct. 16. He was notified of suspicion of premeditated murder of a person in connection with the performance of official duty and intentional infliction of minor bodily harm on an official in connection with official activity. At the prosecutor's request, the court ordered detention without the option of bail.

On June 26 the Kharkiv regional TCC reported a knife attack on servicemen during notification of conscripts, saying one serviceman died and another underwent surgery; it later deleted that message. See also World.
