A 56-year-old resident of Kyiv is facing criminal charges for animal cruelty after authorities discovered she was keeping a wild wolf, a fox, and several dogs in her city apartment. The dangerous living arrangement ultimately led to a severe attack on the owner and the death of one of the predators.
According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the suspect housed the animals in her apartment in the Obolon district for an extended period. Investigators noted that forcing different species to coexist in a confined space created a highly dangerous environment. The woman frequently documented the conditions on her social media accounts, posting videos that showed the wolf confined to a cramped cage.
The situation escalated in December 2025 when the wild wolf attacked the woman, inflicting injuries to her arm and thigh. Following the incident, she sought assistance from animal rights activists, who successfully removed the predator from the premises. This event prompted law enforcement to launch a pre-trial investigation into animal cruelty.
During a subsequent search of the apartment, authorities made a grim discovery: the lifeless body of the fox. Forensic experts examined the carcass and identified minor to moderate injuries on the animal.
The woman has officially been served a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to cruelty to animals. If convicted, she faces a potential sentence of up to three years in prison.
Law enforcement officials are currently continuing their investigation to determine exactly how and where the suspect acquired the wild animals.
