In a significant move to hold perpetrators accountable, Latvia has officially notified the Council of Europe of its intention to participate in the Enlarged Partial Agreement concerning the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

The announcement, made on March 30, underscores Riga's commitment to international justice. According to the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the Council of Europe, the Baltic nation aims to secure its position among the founding countries of this crucial judicial body.

"This step will contribute to the establishment of the Special Tribunal," the diplomatic mission stated, emphasizing the importance of collective European action in addressing the conflict.

Growing International Support

Latvia's decision is part of a broader momentum building across Europe to address the military aggression launched by the Russian Federation. Just days prior, on March 25, Sweden formally acceded to the agreement regarding the Special Tribunal.

Furthermore, the international coalition demanding accountability continues to expand rapidly. Also on March 30, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that eight additional nations have expressed their readiness to join the treaty, signaling robust and growing global backing for the prosecution of war crimes in Ukraine.
