In a continued show of solidarity, the Latvian government has officially approved a fresh €6.8 million assistance package for Ukraine. The initiative, announced by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže on Monday via the social media platform X, aims to bolster both civilian infrastructure and defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict.
According to Minister Braže, the newly allocated funds are strategically directed toward critical sectors. The €6.8 million package will be utilized to reinforce Ukraine's vulnerable energy grid, upgrade civilian shelters, and restore essential infrastructure. Furthermore, the aid is designed to enhance social and civic resilience while simultaneously expanding the nation's operational capacity in drone technology.
"Latvia will always be on Ukraine's side," the top Latvian diplomat affirmed in her statement, underscoring Riga's steadfast commitment to Kyiv.
The announcement arrives against the backdrop of recent regional tensions involving Ukrainian drones crashing within the borders of Baltic nations. Despite these incidents, the governments of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania have jointly reiterated their resolute backing for Ukraine's defensive operations against Russian aggression. In response to the drone fallout, Latvian authorities notably lodged a formal protest with a Russian diplomat, attributing the regional instability to Moscow's actions.
This financial package complements Latvia's ongoing military assistance. Just last week, during an official visit to Kyiv, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds announced that Riga would supply the Ukrainian armed forces with an additional batch of CVR(T) combat reconnaissance armored personnel carriers, further enhancing their frontline capabilities.
