Lavrov Claims Russia Ready to Return to Anchorage Deal with Trump

1 min read

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that Russia considers an agreement to have been reached at the Anchorage summit in August 2025 between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, and that Moscow is ready to return to those terms.

Speaking at a press conference following the UN General Assembly high-level week on September 26, Lavrov said Russia does not suffer from a "lack of trust" and is in principle willing to continue negotiations on a Ukraine settlement — provided that existing agreements are honored.

Background on the Anchorage Summit

Trump and Putin met on August 15, 2025, at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska. The summit concluded without any announced ceasefire or formal agreement. According to Bloomberg, Putin continued demanding Ukrainian troop withdrawals from all of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, though he was willing to freeze the front line in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later stated there were no agreements reached on Ukraine at Anchorage, and that the Russian proposal had been unacceptable to Kyiv.

Lavrov on Europe and Negotiations

Lavrov also claimed European countries are preparing for war with Russia, alleging "metastases of Nazism" in EU and NATO member states including Germany. The remarks came amid a broader Russian diplomatic push on the sidelines of the UNGA session in New York.
