Lavrov claims Washington abandoned Anchorage peace framework agreements

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on September 15 accused the United States of abandoning agreements reached during the Anchorage diplomatic framework talks, which had been aimed at establishing a foundation for ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Lavrov stated that Washington had agreed to certain parameters at Anchorage but subsequently stepped back from its commitments, according to his public remarks. He characterized US behavior as inconsistent and blamed American officials for undermining the diplomatic process. The Anchorage talks had been seen as a preliminary diplomatic channel under the Trump administration's push for a negotiated end to the conflict. Russia has repeatedly claimed that Western partners are the main obstacle to peace, while Ukraine and its allies maintain that any settlement must respect Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Kyiv and Western governments rejected Lavrov's characterization, with Ukrainian officials noting that Russia has continued military operations throughout any diplomatic engagement.
