Teenage defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe has become one of the most talked-about players in Liverpool's pre-season under new head coach Andoni Iraola, earning more minutes than even he might have expected following injury absences among the club's senior central defenders.

However, the 18-year-old from Austria Vienna — signed by Liverpool in a deal agreed in January — faces a significant obstacle: Brexit work permit regulations prevent non-UK European players from competing in the Premier League unless they meet specific international caps or transfer fee thresholds. Ndukwe currently does not qualify.
