Lviv Draft Office Serviceman Suspected of Beating Mobilized Man to Death

1 min read

Investigators from Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have notified a serviceman of a Lviv territorial recruitment and social support center (TCC) that he is a suspect in the brutal beating of a mobilized man, who died in hospital from his injuries. The suspect and other TCC staff are alleged to have carried out the beating.

According to the investigation, the man was kicked and punched in the torso and chest while lying on the floor with his hands cuffed behind his back, unable to defend himself. The suspect himself delivered at least two kicks. Afterward the victim was forcibly carried to a utility room at the TCC in Lviv, from where an ambulance later took him away.

Injuries and charges

Doctors found multiple broken ribs, severe lung damage and other life-threatening injuries. Despite their efforts, the man could not be saved.

The serviceman was served a notice of suspicion of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm that caused death, committed by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code). He faces up to 10 years in prison. A court has remanded him in custody without the option of bail.

A prior conviction

This is not the first criminal case against this serviceman. In August 2026, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv found him guilty of taking a bribe in collusion with other persons. The court then imposed a punishment not involving imprisonment. But already in September the serviceman became a suspect in a new criminal case.

The SBI says the investigation continues: investigators are identifying all TCC employees involved in the beating and establishing the circumstances of the man's death. See more in our World section.
