Macron Orders France to Prepare Critical Infrastructure Defense Against Russia

📅 Sep 18, 2026⏱ 1 min read💬 0 comments

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Russia has significantly escalated its hybrid attacks since summer and issued a directive to prepare a comprehensive plan for protecting France's critical infrastructure and defense industrial sites.

Macron's Statement

Speaking at a press conference following a meeting with parliamentary party leaders, Macron cited a series of Russian provocations: "Since this summer, Russia has significantly increased the number of its attacks: a drone attack on a Kyiv-Warsaw train, an attempted attack in Leipzig, a missile launched near a Danish frigate, several incursions into European airspace..."

Macron stated he ordered France to heighten vigilance in response to the Russian threat, directing Interior Minister to prepare a plan covering drone and cyberattack defenses for France's critical infrastructure and defense industrial base.

European Context

Macron's directive aligns with broader European concerns about Russian hybrid warfare. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said intelligence indicates Russian "hybrid attack plans" against Ukraine-supporting nations. EU Commission President von der Leyen announced plans for a new security strategy supplementing NATO Article 4.
