Man City Found Guilty of Majority of 115 Premier League Financial Rule Charges

1 min read

Manchester City have been found guilty of the majority of 115 charges of financial rule breaches levelled by the Premier League, BBC Sport has learned, following an investigation spanning more than four years.

City were charged in February 2023 over alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018, covering 54 counts of failure to provide accurate financial information, 14 counts of failing to provide accurate financial details, and other related charges. The independent commission hearing began in September 2024 and has now reached a verdict.

However, the process is far from over. Sanctions have yet to be determined, and City are widely expected to appeal. The range of potential punishments includes points deductions, fines, or in the most severe scenario, relegation and the stripping of titles won during the period in question.

Other Premier League clubs have been seeking legal advice on potential compensation claims. The case is one of the longest-running controversies in English football history, and resolving all aspects — including any appeal and compensation proceedings — is expected to take considerably more time.
