Drone crashes and explodes in Moldova's Donduseni district

1 min read

An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed and exploded in the Donduseni district of Moldova on October 16. Moldovan authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and issued warnings to local residents not to approach or touch the wreckage, citing the risk of unexploded ordnance.

The drone's origin and intended trajectory were not immediately confirmed by Moldovan officials. Moldova, which shares a border with Ukraine, has previously experienced drone incidents linked to the Russia-Ukraine war as errant Russian attack drones have occasionally strayed into Moldovan airspace.

Moldova is officially neutral and has repeatedly protested drone incursions into its territory. The government in Chișinău has previously summoned Russian and Ukrainian diplomatic representatives following airspace violations. Authorities are working to determine whether the drone is of Russian or Ukrainian origin.
