Moldova government to consult civil society on EU enlargement proposals

1 min read

Moldova's government has announced it will launch a broad civil society consultation process before formally responding to the European Union's latest enlargement cluster proposals. The move signals Chisinau's commitment to inclusive decision-making as it navigates the complex accession negotiations.

The consultations will involve NGOs, academic institutions, business associations, and community representatives who will have the opportunity to review the EU's proposed requirements and share concerns or suggestions with the government's negotiating team.

Moldova opened EU accession negotiations in June 2024 alongside Ukraine. Both countries are working through a series of reform clusters tied to EU standards in areas including rule of law, anti-corruption measures, and economic governance.

The civil society process is seen as particularly important for cluster 5, which covers areas like social policy and employment. EU officials have welcomed Moldova's consultative approach, noting it strengthens public ownership of the reform agenda.
