North Korea Tests AI-Guided High-Precision Torpedoes in Underwater Trials

1 min read

North Korea announced on Saturday that it had conducted underwater trials of a new AI-guided high-precision torpedo system, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) cited by Yonhap.

According to KCNA, the trial launch of an ultrahigh-speed precision navigation system took place on Thursday. The state news agency said the tests demonstrate significant changes in the country's naval power.

North Korea has been accelerating its weapons development program in recent years, testing ballistic missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles, and now AI-guided underwater weapons. The announcements are seen as part of Pyongyang's strategy to demonstrate advanced military capabilities.

South Korea and the United States have been monitoring North Korea's weapons programs closely, particularly amid reports of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
