Northern Lights Visible Across Large Parts of UK in Spectacular Display

A powerful geomagnetic storm lit up the skies over large parts of the United Kingdom with spectacular northern lights on October 10-11, 2026. The aurora borealis was visible as far south as parts of England, delighting observers across the country.

Photographs of the display flooded social media. The Met Office had issued an aurora alert earlier in the day as the solar storm approached Earth.

Scientists noted the activity is consistent with the current solar maximum cycle, which has been producing more frequent geomagnetic disturbances.
