Olympic Gold Medallist Eve Muirhead Returns to Competitive Curling After Retirement

Eve Muirhead, the most decorated curler in British history, has confirmed that she will return to competitive play following a retirement she announced in 2023 after her successful Olympic campaign. The 36-year-old Perth native cited a desire to compete at the highest level once more and to help develop younger Scottish curlers as her motivation for returning.

A Legendary Career

Muirhead's curling career spans more than two decades and includes four Olympic appearances. Her greatest achievement came at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where she skipped the Great Britain women's team to a gold medal — the country's first Olympic curling gold since the men's team won at Salt Lake City in 2002. She is also a multiple World Championship and European Championship medallist, as well as one of the most recognisable faces in winter sport globally.

What Comes Next

Muirhead will initially compete at the Grand Slam of Curling events this autumn, with a longer-term aim of qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, where she would become one of the oldest athletes to represent Team GB in curling. She has assembled a new team combining experienced players with younger talent from the Scottish youth programme. World Curling Federation president Kate Caithness welcomed the return, saying Muirhead's presence elevates the global profile of the sport.
