PC Harper's Mother: Downing Street Call Gives Hope on Blocking Killers' Early Release

The mother of PC Andrew Harper says a phone call from a senior Downing Street official has given her hope that the UK prime minister will prevent the early release of two men convicted of her son's killing.

Debbie Adlam told BBC Breakfast that the No 10 official told her the prime minister wanted to do everything he could to find a resolution to prevent Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers from being freed halfway through their sentences. She said: 'For me, it's hope, but I can't afford to be too hopeful.'

Andrew Harper was dragged to his death by a car while responding to a theft report in 2019. Adlam is not seeking special treatment for her son's case but wants all killers of emergency service workers to be excluded from early release schemes.
