Poland denies halting military aid to Ukraine over 'Year of UPA'
Poland's Ministry of National Defence has denied reports that Warsaw suspended military aid to Ukraine in response to the Lviv regional council's decision to declare 2027 the "Year of the UPA". The ministry's spokesman, Janusz Sejmej, gave the denial to the Polish outlet Fakt.
"This information is false," Sejmej said of the claim that military aid to Ukraine had been halted.
What the report said
On 22 October, European Pravda, citing a source in the Ukrainian government, reported that Poland had allegedly suspended the delivery of a large military aid package to Ukraine in response to the Lviv council's decision.
Background: the Lviv council vote
On 20 October the Lviv regional council voted to declare 2027 the "Year of Roman Shukhevych, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Oleh Olzhych".
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the decision harms relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Donald Tusk also stressed that such a step helps Ukraine's enemies.
