Poland's Nawrocki responds to Russian drone attacks near Polish border

Poland's presidential office responded on Sunday to Russian drone attacks that took place near the border with Ukraine, raising serious concerns over the escalation of the conflict into NATO territory.

The incident follows a pattern of Russian strikes targeting railway infrastructure in western Ukraine, including a high-profile attack on a locomotive near the Polish border that forced the evacuation of a train carrying European officials including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a senior adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Poland demands answers

The presidential palace in Warsaw stated that the attacks near Poland's border constitute a direct threat to regional security and demanded that Russia be held accountable. Poland's Interior Minister had earlier called Russia the "enemy of the free world" following the incidents.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an emergency security meeting on Sunday to assess the situation, underscoring the gravity with which Warsaw views the latest wave of Russian military activity.
