Poland Prepares Serious Response to Russian Provocations Near Its Border

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski confirmed on September 14 that Poland is increasing its readiness against Russian provocations. His remarks followed PM Donald Tusk's emergency meeting with ministers, military commanders and intelligence officials after a Russian drone struck a passenger train locomotive near the Polish border.

Warsaw Signals Escalation Response

This was a very thorough, serious meeting because we see that Russia is escalating the situation, and the Polish state will give a serious response that will strengthen our security, Sikorski said, declining to detail the planned measures.

The minister added the response would involve protecting the population and changes to legislation. We are in a grey zone of a crisis situation, we need to clarify that. We agreed that various action plans will appear soon, he added.

Repeated Provocations Expected

When asked whether such attacks would recur, Sikorski said he feared so, noting that Russia believes it can intimidate Poland through such actions, but they are wrong.

On September 13, Russia struck a locomotive of a passenger train near the Polish border. Ukrainian Railways suggested the drone may have been targeting a train carrying diplomats and politicians.
