Protesters take to streets in Albania over rising cost of living
Thousands of Albanian citizens gathered in the capital Tirana to protest against the rising cost of living, demanding that the government take action to address soaring food and energy prices that are squeezing household budgets across the country.
Protest demands
Demonstrators called for government subsidies to reduce utility bills and food prices, as well as wage increases to keep pace with inflation. Protest organizers criticized Prime Minister Edi Rama's government for failing to protect citizens from the economic squeeze.
Government response
Government officials acknowledged the economic challenges but defended their fiscal policies, noting that Albania's economy has grown despite global inflation pressures. Talks between protest leaders and government representatives were announced for the coming days.
