Putin Plans Intensified Winter Attacks on Ukraine as Peace Talks Stall

Bloomberg reported that European and American officials have quietly accepted that the war in Ukraine will likely drag on into next year, with no ceasefire in sight despite diplomatic efforts.

According to the report, Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning to intensify winter attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian targets to erode Ukrainian morale and test the resolve of Kyiv and its allies. The strategy mirrors previous winter campaigns that targeted the energy grid.

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who had traveled to both Moscow and Kyiv seeking to broker a deal, returned without achieving any significant breakthrough. Officials familiar with the talks described them as inconclusive, with both sides holding firm to incompatible positions.

Western governments are now focusing on maintaining military supply lines and financial support for Ukraine through what could be another long winter of conflict.
