Reactive Drone Violates Moldovan Airspace, Explodes Near Village
A high-speed drone entered Moldovan airspace from the direction of Transnistria on the morning of September 30, 2026, at approximately 10:26 AM local time. Moldovan Defense Minister Anatol Nosatyi described it as a reactive (jet-propelled) drone flying at about 400 km/h, moving toward the Soroca district.
The drone ultimately crashed outside the village of Hirbovăț in the Anenii Noi district. According to the General Inspectorate of Police, it exploded at an altitude of approximately 40 meters after striking a communications line pole. No casualties were reported.
Moldova Condemns the Violation
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi issued a strong condemnation of the airspace incursion. Moldova has experienced similar drone incidents linked to Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.
The incident comes a day after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that drone incursions into Alliance territory signal an "evolution in the nature of the threat." The EU is also working to establish emergency security protocols against hybrid threats from Russia.
