Romania Issues Air Alert Near Ukraine Border Over Aerial Targets

Romanian authorities issued emergency alerts and scrambled military aircraft on September 10 after military radar detected a group of aerial targets flying near the Romanian-Ukrainian border, close to Snake Island.

Around 15:00 local time, two F-18 fighters and an IAR 330 Puma SOCAT helicopter were launched to monitor the situation.

The National Military Command Center notified Romania's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which sent RO-Alert emergency messages to residents of northern Tulcea county around 15:50.

Residents were urged to remain calm and seek shelter in basements or civil defense shelters. Those without shelters were advised to stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls.

The alert lasted approximately 40 minutes. Romanian authorities are investigating the origin of the aerial targets. This is the latest in a series of drone-related incidents near Romania's border with Ukraine.
