Five Dead, 67 Hurt as Russian Drone Hits Crowded Shopping Mall in Pavlohrad

Ukrainian officials say five people were killed and 67 others wounded when a Russian drone hit a shopping mall in Pavlohrad, a city in Dnipropetrovsk region, during busy daytime hours. Eight of the wounded are children.

Strike on Crowded Streets

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said the attack struck "when the streets were full of people." Shops and vehicles were destroyed in the strike. This was the third shopping mall hit by Russian air strikes in Ukrainian cities this week alone — similar attacks struck malls in Zaporizhzhia and Sumy earlier.

Zelensky and Officials Condemn the Attack

President Zelensky offered condolences and stated: "The Russians used drones to kill people who were simply standing near shopping centres." Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called it a "tactic of coercion," warning that Russia "believes that relentless attacks on civilians can exhaust Ukraine's will to resist."

Russia Reports Ukrainian Counter-Strike on Sochi

Meanwhile, Russia reported a Ukrainian seaborne drone attack on the resort city of Sochi, wounding 28 people, alongside three additional deaths it blamed on Ukrainian strikes. A full-scale war has been ongoing since Russia launched its invasion more than four and a half years ago.

Peace Talks Yield Little

A new peacemaking effort by US President Donald Trump's envoys — who met with Putin in Moscow and Zelensky in Kyiv over the weekend — appears to have yielded few concrete results, with fundamental differences between the two sides remaining unresolved.
