Russia Drones Strike Kyiv, Debris Hits 25-Story Residential Tower
Russia launched a drone attack against the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in the early hours of September 25, 2026, injuring one person and causing significant damage to residential and non-residential structures in multiple districts. The overnight assault unfolded amid air raid alerts warning of ballistic missile threats originating from Russia's Bryansk region.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that debris from a downed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck a 25-story residential apartment building in the Solomianski district. Preliminary reports indicated the impact occurred at the fourth-floor level. A separate fire broke out in an open area of the same district following another drone strike, requiring immediate deployment of fire brigades and emergency crews.
In the Podilskyi district, Russian forces damaged a non-residential building during the same wave of attacks. Ukraine's State Emergency Service subsequently clarified that a six-story non-residential structure caught fire on its first and second floors. Firefighters and rescue teams worked through the night to contain the blaze and assess structural damage.
One person sustained injuries during the attack and was receiving necessary medical assistance, according to official statements from the Kyiv City Military Administration. Officials urged residents to take shelter and follow air defense instructions throughout the duration of the alert.
The all-clear signal was announced at 5:14 AM local time, allowing residents across Kyiv to leave their shelters. Ukraine's air defense forces successfully intercepted a number of UAVs during the attack; however, falling debris from downed drones still reached populated areas and caused structural damage.
This latest assault is consistent with Russia's ongoing aerial campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Since launching its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has conducted hundreds of drone and missile attacks on Kyiv, striking residential neighborhoods, energy facilities, and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities continue to strengthen air defense systems and emergency response capabilities across the capital to minimize casualties and reduce the impact of future strikes.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reiterated that residents must heed air raid alerts promptly, as even intercepted drones pose a risk through falling debris. Emergency services remain on heightened alert following the overnight attacks.
