Russia hits Kyiv's Southern Bridge again, residential building damaged
Russian forces struck Kyiv's Southern Bridge for the third time in a single day on October 1–2, 2026, in a new nighttime attack on Ukraine's capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the hit in a social media post, saying emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Residential building also hit
Beyond the bridge itself, a 25-storey residential apartment building in the Darnytskyi district was damaged during the attack, according to Kyiv's city military administration. Information about possible casualties was still being verified at the time of publication.
In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell in an open area, breaking windows in a non-residential building and damaging several vehicles. The mayor stated there were no injuries or fires there.
Context: repeated strikes on the same bridge
Earlier on October 1, two Ukrainian drones struck near a support pillar of the Southern Bridge. Authorities conducted a preliminary inspection and found no critical structural damage, and ground transport resumed. A second strike the same evening once again suspended metro and ground transport service.
The overnight third strike marks a sharp escalation in the targeting of Kyiv's key river crossings, raising fears about the long-term integrity of the city's transport infrastructure.
