Russia Launches 162 Strike Drones at Ukraine, Seven Killed
Russian forces launched 162 Shahed-type strike drones against Ukraine on September 25 in one of the most intense drone attacks in recent months. Seven people were killed and 59 injured, with impacts recorded at 27 locations across the country.
Scale of the Attack
Ukrainian air defence forces worked overnight to intercept the incoming drones. Despite interceptions, debris and direct hits caused casualties and damage across multiple oblasts. Kyiv was among the hardest-hit areas, with explosions reported in several districts.
The strikes destroyed and damaged residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure. Among the targets struck were the Ivankiv Lyceum No. 2 in Kyiv Oblast and a preschool building in Kyiv's Obolon district.
Officials React
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, saying Russia was deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure to break the will of the Ukrainian people. He called on Ukraine's allies to provide more air defence systems.
The September 25 attack came as Zelensky was at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he met with US and European officials to discuss the war and potential ceasefire arrangements. Russia also simultaneously expanded its strikes to target Ukraine's data centres, aiming to disrupt communications and government services.
