Russia launched a ballistic missile attack against Ukraine in the night of September 16 to 17, according to Ukraine's Air Force and the Kyiv City Military Administration. An air raid alert was declared across the entire country, with the Air Force warning of a MiG-31K aircraft — a carrier of hypersonic Kinzhal missiles — taking off.
The Air Force subsequently tracked missiles heading toward Kyiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia. There was also a warning about the threat of ballistic weapons being launched from the Kursk region. The missile threat alert was lifted at approximately 02:28. The attack resulted in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa.
