The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported a massive overnight drone assault, claiming to have intercepted over 200 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the night of March 29. According to Russian officials, the operation involved fixed-wing drones targeting numerous regions across the country, as well as occupied territories.

Extensive Regional Targeting

Russian military sources assert that air defense systems successfully downed a total of 203 drones. The strikes reportedly spanned a vast geographical area, encompassing the airspace over the Black Sea and occupied Crimea.

Furthermore, the Ministry listed interceptions across 19 specific Russian regions and territories:

  • Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, and Voronezh regions
  • Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, and Novgorod regions
  • Oryol, Penza, Pskov, and Rostov regions
  • Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tver, and Tula regions
  • The Moscow region and Krasnodar Krai

Incidents in the Leningrad Region

This unprecedented wave of drone activity coincides with reports of localized damage. Notably, during the same night, a drone strike in the Leningrad region resulted in a fire breaking out at the Ust-Luga port facility. The full extent of the damage remains under assessment.
