Russian Airstrikes Kill 1, Injure 9 in Sumy Including Two Children

Russian forces carried out guided aerial bomb strikes on Sumy on September 16, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries. State Emergency Service rescuers reported that a man died in hospital from his wounds, while among the nine injured were two children.

Damage Assessment

According to the Sumy region State Emergency Service, rescuers worked at several strike sites across the city. The attacks destroyed and damaged private residential buildings, farm structures, and civilian vehicles in the affected areas.

Earlier Strikes the Same Day

Earlier on September 16, Russian forces had already struck the Kovpakivsky and Zarichnyi districts of Sumy with guided aerial bombs, injuring six people in that first attack. The second wave of strikes later in the day raised the total toll to one dead and nine injured.

Ongoing Threat

The attacks on Sumy are part of a sustained Russian aerial campaign targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. Sumy, located near the Russian border, has been subjected to frequent bombardment throughout the conflict.
